How to create free blu-ray ISO image file from commercial blu-ray discs

This is just a quick guide to help out those who would like to back up the protected commercial blu-ray movies to blu-ray ISO image files on the hard drive and want them to work in PowerDVD or WinDVD. To create free-region blu-ray ISO image files from commercial blu-ray discs, you can first copy the blu-ray contents from protected blu-ray discs using Pavtube Blu-Ray Ripper, and then create blu-ray ISO image files from the source blu-ray contents.

Step 1. Load Blu-ray movie to Pavtube Blu-Ray Ripper.
Run Pavtube Blu-Ray Ripper and you will see the below interface. Click the “BD/DVD” icon to load Blu-ray movie from external/internal Blu-ray Disc Drive. Ensure your computer network unblocked in order to crack Blu-ray Disc copy-protection.

Step 2. Decrypt and back up blu-ray contents to hard drive.
To make a quick and full copy of the Blu-ray movie, you can click ‘Full Disk Copy’ button. In this way all contents of the Blu-ray disc will be copied to your hard drive, including the menus, titles, ads, etc. Full Disk Copy aims to help users to backup the whole contents of a blu-ray disc or standard DVD in the easiest and fastest way. The backup costs much less time than ripping movie to other format. With the Blu-ray and DVD structure, you do not have to create new menu when burning the blu-ray movie to blank blu-ray disc for backup. Once it’s finished ripping check the folder structure by adding in the following folders (even if they are empty)

1. BDMV

2. CERTIFICATE

Step 3. Load BDMV and CERTIFICATE Folder to imgburn.
Once that’s done then using imgburn choose ‘Create Image from Files & Folders’, drag in the BDMV and CERTIFICATE Folder along with any extra files that in your root folder outside of those two folders.

Step 4. Create blu-ray ISO image file using the source blu-ray contents.
In imgburn on the ‘Options’ tab set to UDF and 2.5. On the ‘Labels’ tab type the name of the film in the UDF box. Then choose the destination where you want it to build the ISO and set it going.

So far using this method all my Images play back perfectly in PowerDVD using Virtual Clone Drive to mount them with. You may check for further information in How to play blu-ray ISO image file on HTPC.

Right below the file list you could find “Subtitle” and “Audio” droplist, where you can set output subtitles and dubbings to the languages you like.

Note 1: Pavtube Blu-ray Ripper lets you keep one audio and subtitle stream only, for ripping Blu-ray to MKV format with multiple audio tracks and subtitles preserved you need ByteCopy instead.

Step 2.Set output format.
Click on Format bar and set MKV format for Blu-ray ripping. In order to rip Blu-ray to MKV 1080p HD video with best quality with the Blu-ray to HD Video MKV Converter you’re advised to select “HD Video >> MKV HD Video” format.

3. Set ac3 from drop-down list of audio Codec if you’d like to get Dolby digital audio for MKV rip.

4. Set 5.1 from drop-down list of audio Channels to rip Blu-ray to MKV with multi-channel surround sound.

Note 2: The Blu-ray Ripper exports AAC/AC3 5.1 audio as best. To maintain TrueHD/DTS-HD HD audio while ripping Blu-ray to MKV, you’re suggested to use the professional Blu-ray to MKV ripper Pavtube ByteCopy. (Refer to a comparison chart – Blu-ray Ripper vs. ByteCopy)

Step 4. Start converting/ripping Blu-ray to MKV.
Click on the “Convert” button and the program will rip Blu-ray movie to MKV format for you. As far as i know, it’s not the Blu-ray Ripper, but the preset format that affects file size. Below is the best format settings per my experience for ripping Blu-ray to Kindle Fire:

Video
Codec- H.264
Resolution- 1280×720 (HD)
Bitrate- 1500kbps
Framerate- 30fps

Audio
Codec- AAC
Sampling rate- 44.1khz
Bitrate- 96kbps
Channel- stereo

With the above settings a Blu-ray movie can be compressed to 1.5-2.5GB depends on the movie length. As to Blu-ray ripper, I recommend Pavtube Blu-ray Ripper for Kindle Fire mainly because it allows you set format settings to get desired file size and quality. And other Blu-ray rippers let you rip Blu-ray only but this one rips both Blu-ray and DVD. I tried four Blu-ray video encoders and it is the only one that converts h.264 video without sync issues. It took me a while to find the settings but all turned out fine. The Blu-ray Thor results in a .mp4 file of 1.8GB, and the converted Blu-ray videos plays stunning pictures on my Kindle Fire. The process is straightforward. Customize best settings for Kindle Fire

Kindle Fire plays MP4 and VP8 video only, so you’re suggested to choose “Common Video>> H.264 Video (*.mp4)” format (or “Nook Color(*.mp4)” from “Android” category) . The format exports 480p .mp4 video with pretty good picture and compresses a 100min Blu-ray movie to 2-3GB. In that case the Kindle Fire holds only 3 or 4 movies only. To down-size output file, you can click “Settings” and set lower bitrate as mentioned at the beginning of the article.

If you’d like to put 10 movies to Kindle Fire, set video bitrate down to 1000kpbs so that a 100min movie would be reduced to around 800M. Note that when you lower bitrate, you lower video quality meanwhile.

Pretty Simple. After transfer and copying the converted Blu-ray movies to Kindle Fire, you can experience and view Blu-ray 1080p movies on Kindle Fire with 720 HD quality anytime and everywhere. Have fun!
